1998 Durango A/C noise

I have a 98 Durango and when I put the air conditioner on a loud humming type noise is heard every time the compressor kicks in. I checked the level of the 134A and it is fine. What I did notice is a leak around the upper portion of the compressor. Any ideas what the problem may be, bad seals, compressor blown, etc. I just had major repair work done on it last year. Thank goodness I have a full warranty on all the major components of the vehicle. Any help is appreciated.Thanks.

I can identifty

I've had the same problem for about 3 years. Other than sounding like a moose is under the hood, it hasn't effected any other performance.

Recently, however, my A/C and Heat shifts to defrost only anytime the you start to driving...

Thanks for the reply. My problem was a leak in an o-ring. Once changed the a/c worked fine although the fan motor in the Durango is loud. I heard that this is normal in the 98 models.
