Rice

ok here's the question. i know a thread like this has been started before but i think that was last year and since we've gained a lot more "regular's" to this forum and as such i would like to ask the question "what makes someone's ride "rice," or something to that extent. here on the ship i am always talking to other gear heads like myself and hear a lot of different responses. so now i'd like to hear what you all have to say! myself, yeah i've done a few thhings to the car to make it look, feel and sound different...the grills are now white (as is the car), it's totally debadged, windows are tinted (20% rear, 30% front), dynomax exhaust, AEM CAI, aluminum painted calipers, and a new poineer head unit...oh yeah, one hell of a hot hawaiian hula dancer girl that sits on my dash (ya know, the ones with the spring loaded hips??) does this make me rice? i think not...my mods. are not extensive nor expensive or extravagent, but i think tasteful and purposeful. i think rice is anything that makes the OWNER of that particular vehicle even say "should i have done that???" such as buying a base model neon, slamming it (excuse me...circumcising the tops of the springs which makes for a great show on the highway of your ever behind one like that...kind of bumps up and down like a 25 cent vibrating bed, putting some god-awful sounding cat-back on it and a front and rear ground-effects kit that are two dirrerent colors (like primer or something) because they don't have enough money or time to paint them...but they STILL install them. oh yeah, i forgot the best rice give-away on this particular car...the japanese writing decals on the sides behind the front wheel wells as well as on the window. helllllllo....it's a dodge not a mitsubishi lancer, dummy!
now if anyone owns a car like this, knows someone who does or used to before buying what i say is God's gift to mankind (wait a second, that's what blonde cheerleaders are) the SPEC-V, i am sorry for dissing the ride and don't mean any disrespect...but to me that's RICE! anyhow, lemme know what you all think is "rice" and what the best example you saw was...not on the internet (www.ricehaters.com) but on the street...happy driving!

What's your problem with neons? Why can't the owner of a neon lower it? What is wrong with a body kit (as long as it is tasteful)? So what if it is primered? That isn't rice, so what if the owner can't afford to paint it...(how is that rice?). I will agree with you on the awfull exhaust, I hate coffee can mufflers, the ones that sound like an angry bee. It seems to me you have a weak grasp of rice, it isn't the car, owning a neon doesn't make you a ricer, it's the attitude behind the driver. So what if "its a dodge not a mitsubishi lancer"? WHO CARES? That means I am not allowed to modify a car unless you approve? I don't think you understand rice mentality. The word rice its self indicates the origin of the car...imported, but it has been expanded to include any car that has been modified in a tacky way. So what makes my neon ricey? The fact that it is lowered? The fact that it has $3800 wheels and tires? the fact that it is turbocharged and is likely faster than your car? Or the fact that you don't like neons? These modifications on ANY other car would not be rice, but for some reason, on a neon they are? Why?

Please note the lack of decals on my car.

ok
i don't much time to reply to your last post, but buddy you got the wrong idea from my post. i never said neon's alone are ricey...but the example i saw yesterday on the highway sure as hell was. and yes it happened to be a neon. and yes i'm sure you have a nice neon, and no i don't think it's rice because it's lowered and turbocharged and everything. good for you, i'm sure it IS faster than my car but i don't care. tasteful additions are everything, but if your going to do something complete it before you take it out and try and race others (i.e. paint your spoilers prior to putting them on so your car isn't 3 different colors) but that doesn't mean i'm biased against neons. i'll write more later on...but please, read my article more carefully and you'll realize that it was a OPINION poll...not a poll to write what you think and then call other people wrong. that's not opinion...that's being naieve. happy driving.

There is some "Mexican Rice" around where I live! I hope that doesn't come across as racist, but the guy happens to be Mexican, and drives a Thunderbird.
Here is what I have seen:
Chrome colored trim around all doors, hood and trunk.
Horrible sounding exhaust. It looks stock, but I couldn't get a good look.
Hand painted roof. The car started as red (I think) and the roof is white.
Lots of Japanese letter/charachter stickers on the hood, the sides, and the trunk.

I have seen the car twice on the road, and it was moving both times. I may be wrong on a couple of things here, and there may be a few more atrocities that I didn't see. I am hoping one day to get a pic!!!

Sorry, misinterpreted it, I though you were referring to neons specifically. I think the best classification of rice would be, outlandish exterior mods, without any go fast mods to back it up. Again, sorry bout the flame.

muphasta..nah man that's not racist...some people may think my ride is rice and i'm italian, so i guess that makes it "italian rice!" LOL! anyways, i saw a taurus on the freeway...waaaay too much to list right now but i'll get back to it another time, remind me!
sluttypatton...it's cool man, mis-understandings happen and it's hard to tell what someone is trying to say on the computer when your reading it...hearing it is a lot easier. no sweat though, crazy-ass questionable cars come in all makes. speaking of, i wanted to drive a 350Z today but they wouldn't let me because it was in the showroom. assholes! it was the touring model and the 18's look enormous on it. not too sure of it's worth that almost 40 grand pricetag though. happy driving.

how about a stratus with 10 led washer nozzles on the hood (yes 10), a fogger system in the trunk (like what you find at a rave), neon hot wirez all over the freakin car, engine bay, everything....battery gauge on the outside of the bumper??? It has a couple other things but I can't think of them. Oh, it has a pvc intake, and other than that it's completely stock. It also just plain looks like crap...dents, dirty, bad paint job, etc. I have some pics of it but I'll have to dig them up.

yeah it's cause I have no life....drive an hour to work, work for 11 hours, drive an hour home, sit at the comp for a couple hours post-whoring on 4 different forums, sleep, repeat....oh well, it pays for the mods, so I can live through it

Peace

The neighborhood where I live is like a rice farm. Beat up Civics and Integras making mad noise with like 6 people in the car. What the hell are they reving the engine up for with all those people in the back seat. The thing I hate the most is the stickers and crap.
