Post ATTEN: Hawaii! Pacific Basin Model Car EXPO!

That’s right, we have a model show coming up, and I want all Hawaii AF members to enter!

Description:

The Hawaiian Island Model Car Club, in association with Model Cars Magazine, is proud to announce the Pacific Basin Model Car Expo on August 10, 2003. The model car contest will have 19 classes to enter models in. The all-day Expo will features demonstrations, “Make It-Take It” model car building sessions for the kids, a model car swap meet, and special guest(s) from the mainland. There will also be a 1:24 scale slot car track set up. The Expo will be held at the Neal S. Blaisdell center in the Pikake Room in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. There is no admission charge, but there is a $5 entry fee to enter the models in the show (junior modelers are free).
The Expo will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Entries will be accepted from 10:00 until noon. Judging will begin at 1:00 p.m. The awards and winners will be announced at 5:00 p.m.
If you have any questions regarding the show or if you would like swap meet vendor information, call Gregg at 808.554.8159, fax 808.942.1799, or visit the web site at http://www.himcc.org

Categories:

1. CURBSIDE/SLAMMER
In this class, the models will be judged from a distance of three feet away. Details such as photo etched and small painted parts are discouraged. Curbside models with exposed engines that are detailed, wired, and plumed WILL be bumped into a detailed class. This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.
1. Curbside Adults-ages 16 and over.
2. Curbside Junior-ages 15 and under.

2. DETAILED
In this division, judges will handle and completely inspect each model. Attention will be given to all aspects of model building, such as paint, neatness, fit and finish, realism, etc.

3. STOCK/REPLICA
This class is for the builder that wishes to build a vehicle, as it would be available from a dealer. This would include dealer options and add-ons that a dealer offered. Some builders like to build replicas of original vehicles that may or may not have come out in a kit. AN example would be the Monkee Mobile, pace cars, a friend’s car, or a vehicle you saw driving on the road. Documentation, i.e.: pictures of the real vehicle will greatly assist in verifying the replica and stock classes. This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.

4. STREET ROD

5. STRRET MACHINE
Any street driven car, 1950 or newer. This could vary from a rusted out VW Bus to a radical street legal Pro Stock Mustang. Just keep in mind that the model should represent a vehicle that would be able to run on the street legally. Final determination will be discretion of the judges. This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.

6. CUSTOMS
Any model that has had extensive bodywork or other modifications that changes that model’s overall appearance from the original kit or vehicle. Examples of this would be cars that have been chopped, channeled, and/or sectioned; phantom body styles; or “Lead Sleds.” This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.

7. IMPORTS
Any street driven car that was manufactured by a non-U.S. company and “imported” into the U.S. Examples are Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus, Nissan, etc. Domestic cars that are considered sub-compact may be entered in this. This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.

These include any vehicle used commercially. This includes, but is not limited to, flatbed trucks, big rigs, tow trucks, delivery vehicles, backhoes, police cars, taxis, etc. This class is limited to 1/25, 1/24, and 1/20 scale models only.

Sound like a good one, especially if Model Cars Mag is involved - lots of publicity

Can't you take like a cruise or small flight?

OR is it just not worth the price?

How much does a plane ticket to Honolulu cost, on average? I haven't really traveled to another island, except to Maui in the 6th grade.

Damn, I was supposed to enter the 1969 Camaro drag car! But not sure if the paint will cooperate. I bought some paint at Wal-Mart, and it seems to be able to "peel" off, exactly what was happening to my brothers 350Z, but he used the spray can type.

Just a warning, DO NOT use Plasti-Cote paints, stick with Testors, or Tamiya and anything else that has worked with your models. Although it may be just the type of weather we got here, it was quite humid about a day before I painted the car.
