Is this a sick joke? (13,000 Arab+ to be possibly deported from US)?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2974882.stm
He says the policy is "targeted only toward Muslims. "This is a major concern. They are planning to reduce the number of Muslims on American soil... discourage Muslim immigration, make our lives difficult." Islam is one of the largest and fastest growing religions in the world and especially in the US. Strange :/ |

Of 82,000 who registered,13,000 were found to have breached immigration rules. There are consequences to breaching the laws of any country, particularly if you are a foreign national.I'm sure that if the US decided to make it compulsory for Mexican-born males to register, the figures would also be high. But then the Mexicans aren't noted for flying planes into landmarks. It a shame that all young men of 25 mainly Muslim nations are being called to account for the actions of terrorists, but by far the majority of the 82,000 who registered face no negative consequences[other than the prejudice of rednecks].
On a more critical note. This reminds me of a declaration form handed to me by U.S. Customs and Immigration on a flight into Seattle a few years ago.One of the questions that I was seriously expected to reply to was"are you,or have you ever been,a member of the Nazi Party?" I doubt very much if any former Nazi would be foolhardy enough to tick the 'yes' box.In much the same way,I doubt if any terrorist intent on staying in America for illegal purposes would ever consider registering. |

What Taranaki means is that nobody that is intent on commiting terrorism is going to walk up to any authority figure and hand himself over. You're not going to go and tell the police you're going to rob a bank just before you walk into a bank are you?

ROFL reminds me of a security check form I had to do once.
"Are you a member of an organisation who purpose is the subversion of the New Zealand government?" "Are you, or have you ever been, a member of a political organisation that uses violence to achieve its aims?" LOL Govt. security job too which makes it funnier. |

What makes me laugh is on the form Taranaki was referring to for flying into the USA, it has all these questions with YES/NO answers, and then at the very end it states:
"Answering 'Yes' to any of the Above questions could result in denial of admission to the USA" Anyone smart enough to read the whole form before filling it out then knows not to answer 'yes' to anything. Even better, if you did, you can claim to have made a mistake and get a clean form anyway...

Oh :/ I thought he was kidding o_O..
That's very much so like what happened with Sars in Canada... I came to a clinic for some inspection and everyone is questioned (hah they had masks with spiky teeth!), the questions were so stupendous "Do you have SARS" Yes/No lol.. then afterwards the questions are "Are you experiencing headaches? Yes/No, "are you etc..." all the symptoms of sars (very generalized and actually I had a headache that day ) and on the bottom ya heh it says the similar thing, something in the context of "If you answered yes to any of the above you may not enter". I'd be honest heck why the hell would I risk other's lives but.. the questions were just plain silly..

While the report specifically mentioned men from the middle east (muslims in general) they are not the only "group" of people being looked at for visa violations. We have to many people in this country illegally. I don't care where they are from.
I'm all for immigration (as my wife and inlaws moved here from Korea twenty years ago) but its got to be done legally. The illegals are just a burden on the system.

I took me nearly a year of filling out papers, interviews and medical exams to get my green card, but my wife is American and it was worth it so we could be together (I immigrated while we were still engaged).

One of my Russian colleagues wants to become a citizen but he would have to leave (because of the way his work visa is structured) and come back in. Since there is no guarantee that he’d be back, he’s going to stay here under his work visa as long as it keeps getting renewed.

Most of my trips to America in that year were business related, and included travelling on to Europe. Like Yogs said, you have to be outside of America for the issuance of the residency Visa, so even if you're in America on a work Visa, you then have to leave for 3 months to get the Green Card issued. If you've got a work visa already, you may as well stay as long as you can, but if you're waiting on the Green Card, there is no point in travelling to America only to have to leave to get your Green Card. You're right Yogs, it does take too long, but all the files get processed in America not at the individual embassies, and once you have applied, they have your name on record as wanting to move to the USA. I would imagine your passport number gets entered in an INS database that all entering and exiting foreign nationals get checked against.

I believe all illegal immigrants should be deported no matter where they are from. They are trying to pass a law in my state which would give illegal mexican immigrants the ability to pay instate tuition at state colleges. This is way overboard. Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. Yet alot of times are eligible for Medicare benefits. If they want to be in our country let them go through legitimate channels.
