Plug in OBD 2 scanner>Van Stalls

Time to ask the experts. 2005 Express Van with V-8, 90,000 miles. Last week all of the Instrument Panel Lights were off. This week I had 1 light lit, of course it was the Check Engine Light.

Truck was & is running fine. I plugged my OBD 2 in with the engine running and the engine stalled. Unplugged it and it started. Turned the engine off, plugged in the Scanner then the Engine would not start. Then removed Scanner, re-started engine, plugged in Scanner; this time it stayed running.

I tried to Scan and it came up as it was not connected. I know I had it seated properly, I even heard a slight beep when I plugged it in.

Tried the Scanner on the Wife's car, it worked perfectly.

I am very puzzled. Dumb question, could the Instrument Panel lighting (or lack, there of) have anything to do with the Check Engine light coming on?

Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

That is not the point.
The van may not like that scanner even if it works on wife's car which is different.

Another good scanner would tell if it is van or scanner problem.

Auto zone and some other parts places will give you a free scan with there scanner.

I spoke with a friend, he is going to lend me his scanner. I updated the Software on my scanner but I had the same problem. Funny thing was while "playing" with the scanner, the Check Engine Light went off. No idea how that happened. I still want to find out if something is wrong.

I will post any findings, maybe it will help someone else in the future.
