Re: 97 silverado tailgate latch
You might be able to salvage it - with the handle stuck open, spray some WD40 or other anti-sieze compound on the hinges inside and work the handle until it moves freely. Once it's working freely spray the hinges with lithium grease to prevent it from binding.

Re: 97 silverado tailgate latch
WD 40 is the answer to most automotive problems and not restricted to just corroded hinges or lubrication. Just the other day I too had a similar problem with the window winder of my office vehicle. I simply opened up the door panels and gave the mechanism an overload of the spray can and it was good to go. You could also refer maintenance tips like I do to know more on DIY and repair procedures online.

Re: 97 silverado tailgate latch
@mountaindew11, there is a wonderful product called Fluid Film.
http://www.fluid-film.com/ This stuff will coat and protect the crucial points that cause the tailgate to stick. Not only that, but it won't dry up or cause caking. Give it a shot! I have 20 truck fleet, I use it on everything...and not as often as I did WD-40. |
