2007 Chevy Cobalt LT, spotty power windows

Hi,

I own a 2007 Chevy Cobalt 2.2L LT. Over the past year I've developed a problem with my power windows occasionally not working. I've tried a few things to find the source of my problem but haven't found it yet.

When my windows don't work I am unable to put down any of the four windows from my driver side control switch. Along with that I'm also unable to put down either of the rear windows using their respective control switches. However, I am able to get the front passenger window down from its front passenger control switch. This problem seems to come about more often when the weather is slightly colder out (generally in the mornings, but not 100% of the time). Likewise, when it's warmer out (but not 100% of the time) all windows and their control switches work properly.

I looked up the power windows wiring diagram and saw that if the driver side control switch was faulty then it could cause the driver side and both rear windows to not work. So, since a new driver side control switch wasn't too expensive, I bought a new one to see if this was the problem. Unfortunately installing a new drivers side control switch didn't solve my problem.

It seems clear to me that none of the four window control switches as well as each of their respective window motors are faulty. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to where I could check to see where my problem might be coming from?

I appreciate any advice I can get,
Stanton

Stanton:

I don't know the wiring for this vehicle, but since you have a diagram I might be able to help you determine the cause. Other than the switch, are there a circuits or components that could be common to these three not working? For example, does the wiring diagram indicate a common terminal leading to or from the master control switch? There are often wire splices hidden under the trim that might be a cause.

Also, some vehicles now control the window indirectly in order to enable one-touch opening of the window. Is there such a feature in the Cobalt?

You may be able to force it to happen by doing some disassembly then moving the wiring around.

Because it is intermittent, it may be difficult to isolate. The better you can look for ways to isolate the problem, the more likely you can find and correct it.
