1996 GMC Sierra rpms

Hey guys, new here. Have a problem with my 1996 5.0 GMC Sierra
Rpms go high at times when I am just cruising at lowers speeds. Seems
As though the tranny jumps out and then in. It does it in overdrive
But not in lower gears. Anyone had this problem. What could be the problem?
