Engine interchange

Hi,
I found used engine for my 2004 grand prix.
My car has engines series 2 and one that they offer my at LKQ is series 3(I checked online by VIN)it is same year.
Is that engine going to fit my car without changing any software etc.? and where I could find engine interchange book by VIN or something like that?
Thank you for help/

Yes, It should be and I am wondering how I have series 2 engine :S
I have 2004 grand prix GT1, does not have any special options, just basic model.
Can anybody prove did they make this year grand prix with series 2 or not?
