1997 escort, manual, 191,000 miles
Ok so I'm about to strangle my husband. He was out yesterday with the voltmeter trying to test in the relays in the CCRM to see if the fan relay was bad. He stuck the probe into a spot he shouldn't have and there was a bunch of clicking in the CCRM. After that he put it back together and when we tried to start the car it would crank but not turn over. When we put the key in and turned it to on the fuel pump didn't make a noise. All the dash lights come on. So he is thinking he fried the CCRM or the ECM. Any ideas before we maybe spend money we don't need to? As of right now we have no running cars since this has happened and he is rebuilding his engine in his jimmy.

He says when the key is turned on and all the dash lights come on the check engine light doesn't light up like all the other lights do. He is taking the seat out now to check power at fuel pump.

It's likely the PCM if the check engine light doesn't come on. Check for shorted wires on the manifold around the heater tubes. The CCRM is basically a relay middle man for a lot of things, so when that goes.. everything goes. Does the AC turn on?

Then the CCRM is dead. It's not a super expensive part, but hopefully it did not take the PCM with it because that will be.

he says he put 12 volts of power to the ac ground wire in the ccrm and he thinks that fried the computer

The blower motor fan turns on when you turn the vent on but when you turn it to ac there is no clicking or extra noises or anything and the blower motor is still running

Re: 1997 escort, manual, 191,000 miles
we ordered a new ccrm for $110 and it will be in later today. it will take 5 days for the computer if we order it and that's $180. Guy at part store suggested a junk yard for that so if it isn't the problem we aren't out a lot of money but of course none are open today so we can't call around.

Whatever you are saying here, ... that needs to be focused on. Not the CCRM, not the fuel pump, not the PCM. Get the engine turning over... simple stuff ... and go from there. |

he says he doesn't see a spark at the plugs when we are trying to crank it. everything was great til he started trying to figure out why the cooling fan wasn't coming on after the car has been running for awhile

Put a new CCRM in and car cranked up. Took it for a test drive, seems good
