Nissan S12 Grand Prix (commissioned build)

Last week a new customer came by to show his real car and give me the modelkit to replicate his rare Nissan S12 GP.

Now he was here, I could start with taking some reference pics.

The modelkit is just a simple kit with not much detailed parts. But why do they include a clear hood? As there is no enginedetail?

I bought a set of Longchamp XR-4 wheels from Aoshima.

and ordered the white paint at Hiroboy.

The GP version has a widebody, so I have to make one myself. I already start to draw the lines.

Nice! How do you go with your commissioned builds? Im doing one at the moment & somedays I just stare at my ever expanding collection & just want to do my own thing.
Love the steering wheel in that beast too!!

Interesting project! Will follow how you build up the fenders.
In some of that s12 kits they included the fj20, that might be the resin why there is a clear hood in all of them.... I casted it, just if there is any interest

Yeah I know what you mean, and I also look at my growing stash and want to start my own project. But in the end, the money I get for these commissioned builds will help me buying new kits and stuff And it's always great to make the owners happy with a replica of their car!

Re: Nissan S12 Grand Prix (commissioned build)

Well I just started this car, as I'm still waiting for decals to complete the Supra.

First I removed the centercaps from the wheels.

I als started to make a rough shape for the widebody fenders.

After that I used Milliput to fill up the fenders and make it smooth with a wet finger. It will save me a lot of sanding when everything is dry.

Meanwhile I sanded the fenders and think it's all smooth now. I have to check that with a layer of filler this week.

Re: Nissan S12 Grand Prix (commissioned build)

And I'm really busy with the body right now.

First I started to cut out the roof window. First drilled a hole.

And then disaster happened. I used to much force during the cutting, so the whole body broke into 2 pieces. I was so angry, but when I was in the mood again I repared the body. I also added the thick window rubbers.

I also made a frontlip from scratch.

And made a rearspoiler from scratch:

And added the panellines for the black trim in the new wide fenders:

Now it will be checked for the last imperfections and hopefully I can paint the body soon.

Great work Kris! Nice to see that you fixed it after breaking it. Not always easy to get back into it...

Re: Nissan S12 Grand Prix (commissioned build)

Big update guys,

First i primered the body, to see if everything was smooth enough.

It was smooth, so I could paint the body with Crystal White Nissan paint.

And clearcoated with 2K Clear:

And today I did a lot of masking to paint all the black parts. This was a lot of work, but it payed off when I removed the masking tape and saw a perfect smooth body

And I painted the wheels in Polished Aluminium after I painted them Gloss Black.

Meanwhile I'm busy with the interior and chassis.

Kris.

Re: Nissan S12 Grand Prix (commissioned build)

This week I completed the body.

And started and finished the interior. I mixed a custom blue color using different tamiya paints. I added interiorflocking and some sports seats from Aoshima I think. I also added a bit interiorjunk from ScaleProduction because else it's very boring.

Meanwhile it's finished, so I post the final pics soon!
