'88 Celica

My friend is planning on buying an 1988 Celica, but he wants to know the cars possibilities first, he hasent found any body kits and the mods tha he has found the car already has (Exhaust and header), he plans to eventually start running the quarter mile, and he wants a car that has the possibilities to be in the 14's and look good doing it, any help would be much appricated, thanks

tell him to wait untill he finds a Celica ALLTRAC.

the car will have around 180hp and similar torque and AWD.

it is turboed stock and with simple mods will make a lot of power and i think it runs 15's stock.

well the thing is that he found this car and it is fully mint, 100k and it has a full exhaust and header (it's a GT-S) and it is only $900.00 and it starts and runs like brand new. soo ya, possibilities???

im sorry but there arent many possibilities with a celica of any year except the newer one's, 2000+ years, aside from the turbo alltracs. the aftermarket is very small and a celica that old doesnt make the power it used to(which even then wasnt much)

he can go ahead and get the 88 gts, but an alltrac would be much better, more aftermarket, more power, easier to make power and no traction problems.

how similar are the engines in the GT-S and the all trac, is it possible to just take the turbo and exhaust and ecu and put it on a gts? or are the eniges very different?

the turbo stuff might bolt on but your still stuck with fwd

tell him to look for an alltrac, it will be a much better investment. any other 88 celica would be a waste of money

he bought the GT-S after he got the guy down to 780, so now he has the car, so it might bolt on (the turbo) or it will, now he is curious

well, if he wants to go turbo he will have to get an alltrac ecu, alltrac injectors, the turbo, intercooler, turbo exhaust manifold, downpipe.

that's gonna run you atleast $2500.

like i said, the car is not really worth it

thats fine.

but its kinda funny, when you pay lets say $100 for an UD pulley that adds 8hp, that 8hp cost 1/7 of the cars total cost. all those parts you listed are pretty expensive and probably will not take your friend to his goal, because, afterall the engine still is 15 years old unless it was rebuilt/replaced at some time

your friend can by all means spend his money on the car. i just stated my opinion. it wil take a lot of money and time to get that car into the 14's but it is possible. starting with an alltrac would at first cost more, but then cost less to mad into the 14's and then even lower than that.

oh and one more thing, just from experience i have learned that even if the parts you want are on the internet, in most cases the parts are either no longer made, on backorder, or the seller does not respond or has not updated his catalog.

but i wish you and your friend luck on the new project

and i would also like to say that i am not against the car. all toyotas, in my experience, are good cars if not abused.

what i am against is the intended use your friend has for the car but that again, is up to him
