2000 Grand AM security problem

I had problems with my security light in the past. Was always able to leave the key on for 10-15 minutes and it would relearn itself and restart. The other day went out to leave it would crank and not start. I noticed that the security light was on solid and not blinking. I tried the relearn again and no such luck. Upon researching online, i found you can bypass the sensor in the ignition switch with a resistor and i did that. Let the comoputer do the relearn again. Security light went out but still no start. Could i possibly have a PCM or BCM bad and if so how do you determine which one it may be. Any help would be great. Thanks!

2.4/3.1/3.4?

Not sure what you mean by the SECURITY light now goes out....if you turn the key to on, the light should be on solid.....it's not until the car starts that it goes out.....

Have you checked for "B" codes?

Will the car start if you spray carb cleaner into the intake? If it does, and fuel pressure is ok, then the injectors possibly are not firing due to a security problem.....

Re: 2000 Grand AM security problem

i bypassed the sensor in the ignition with a resistor to make computer think sensor was working fine. security light has went out. before i did that it was on solid, not blinking. im at a lost of what to do. i had had scanner from MAC tools and it did not show any codes. i have not tried spraying in the intake, should I try that and see what happens

Re: 2000 Grand AM security problem

As far as I know, code readers and certain scanners can only read "P" codes....

Since that resistor sends it's "data" to the BCM, if there is a problem, a "B" code will be set, usually B2958 or B2960......as I said, maybe that scan tool can't read "B" codes.....

Spray carb cleaner into the intake as someone cranks the car....if it starts and runs as long as you spray, then you know you have a fuel delivery problem.....

Then it's either the pump or the injectors.....if a fuel gauge shows around 40psi, then the pressure is ok.....

Then the problem is the injectors.....maybe they are not firing due to a SECURITY problem.....then you would disconnect an injector harness and attach a noid light to the harness and crank the engine....while cranking, the noid like should be constantly flashing.....if steady on or no light at all, that is a separate problem....if an initial flash and then nothing, then it's a security problem....
