A/C Compressor
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7. The A/C has worked great since the day we got it two years ago, until last week. My wife was driving home from work and the compressor locked up while the A/C was on and smoked the belt. The compressor is fairly new. I turned it by hand and it turns fine. I decided to take a little freon out for the heck of it and it pumped great after that but it isnt cooling now even though it runs. I added a little freon back to it and the pulley stopped and started squealing again. Could something be plugged? Why would it run when i take freon out and lock up when I put some in? Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: A/C Compressor
Wow, that's odd that it works without freon and locks up with. There's obviously something very wrong with the compressor and a new one is probably in your future. It IS 8 years old, and although you didn't say how many miles are on the Jeep, I'm guessing over 100k?

Re: A/C Compressor
It has right at 100,000 miles and the compressor is brand new.
