86 Wide Body

Before I get started, I want to say that I am aware of the issue's with the resin kit from Hobby Design, and I made the choice to buy the HD version, more so because of what all you get for the money, do I feel bad?, sure, but that is in past, I do understand many are going to not like this, and that is fine, I respect that, so please respect this build thread, thank you

Been looking forward to getting started on this one, finally got the resin kit, and here is a look at it , I am playing with the idea of a engine swap on this one, and swapping in the J2Z from Supra

and a look at the body before I get started

Cut open the fenders, yes, ugly cuts

Mock up

And glued in place

And the front bumper piece on

and the lower rocker piece's on

Re: 86 Wide Body

Nice, you have made a very promising start on this.
Will be following to see how this builds up. Been on my "want list" for a while, but not sure if I need it.

Like McD's... I'm Loving It!!! Can't wait to see more. Are you planning to use the wheels included in the transkit? And any ideas on color yet?

Re: 86 Wide Body

I am not sure if I am going to use the wheels , and for color, I have no idea either, I have a few shades in mind, but cant bring myself to make a decision lol

Not a lot to post, taking care of a few issue's that I caused , one of them and I forgot to take a before pic was the right fender piece at the top , the edge or lip was not sitting flush with the top of the fender, I believe that was due the multiple attempts it took to get it lined up and the glue build up was causing it to stick up, so a little bit of putty to blend them together

And I sort of took to much off the rear bumper well , so had to fix that too, so again, out comes the putty

Re: 86 Wide Body

Have not done a lot, sort of at a stand still tell the Supra kit arrives, but I did start on the brakes, first thing was I had to remove the rear part of the kits brakes that attach to the suspension

looking at the P/E sets, three P/E trees, and most of them make up the brakes

and with the suspension taped up to the chassis, how about a mock up, and that is what it is right now still have some work on the alignment on the rear and the front does not have the tie rod attached

and here are all the bits that make up one, yes one brake rotor, 11 bits for each rotor

and awhile later, four done, I am not happy, I made a mess of them with the CA glue, lucky they will be hidden for the most part

attached to the front/rear suspension

Re: 86 Wide Body

HD doesn't look bad at all. But a lot of work. Hopefully it turns out well.

I did a test fit, it seem to be ok

Here are the calipers

Spent time on the rotors and sanded them to try and remove some of the CA glue, repainted them, and painted the calipers and installed them

Re: 86 Wide Body

Here we go, a few shots of the engine in place

and the bottom plate, as you can see, I had to open it up to let the engine sit further down

And I started working on the interior,

replacing the kit seats with these

Re: 86 Wide Body

Ooooh, that's a sweet blue you picked mate. Is it Tamiya Mica?

Progress is coming along nicely and the brakes look superb.
