Tyrell P34 Six Wheeler

Hi,

Last march I visited the Donnington Collection in the UK. The largest single seater museum in the world

There was this Tyrell P34 on display. It took some detail shots of it and they are now posted on my site Automotomover . So if you're gonna build Tamiya's P34 in 1/20th scale, these can be of some help.

Woah!
Some great pictures there !

I love that car ! Actually I think it's not the only car ever to be made in formula one with six wheels, before it was banned, I remember vaguuely a BMW Formula one prototype (lab-car) having four back wheels, making it 4*6 !

Oh, and a little question, did this car actually do well with this set-up,
I understand it wins -aerodynamically speaking-, but will the tyre wear not eclipse this advantage ?

(btw, the car Tamiya brought out in 1/20th scale, has a slightly different frontal and cowling, leaving the back side open for the Monaco GP IIRC)

Tamiya makes the car in 2 different versions.
If I remember correctly, one of the main reasons it was dropped so quickly was the tyre manufacturer issues, the suppliers weren't willing to cater to the very specific requests of Tyrell.

You know who you're talking to right...

I took at least 4 to 5 pictures of EVERY McLaren in the "McLaren-Hall" shooting 7 rolls of 36 pics...

Tyrell dropped the 6-wheeler concept because Goodyear didn't see the advantages of it and was nont willing to invest in it - small quantities and tailor made. Although the concept showed convincing and promising results, we'll never know if it was really any good, since it was never developped properly. A real shame... I need to look up the exact results though

Sure thing, that's the purpose of those pages there.
