Oil change procedure
Hi all, new panoz owner here. just picked up one of the Marlboro cars for de and tt use. What is the proper procedure to change oil with the oil cooler? does the cooler have to be drained separately? and do you have to fill the cooler? some where I saw some information on that but cannot find it now. this car has a ls6 motor.
Also where can I get a copy of the tribal wisdom pages I have seen mentioned in a few posts? I am sure I will have a lot of questions here. Information is very sparse on these cars. Thanks |

Re: Oil change procedure
Welcome to the forum!
I've never drained the cooler separately. Just changed oil in pan and filter. I stuck to every 10 hours with synthetic and oil always looks great. Some of the motors that run at higher oil temps change after every weekend Mine stays below 235 even in the hottest weather. Send me an email to mduke8 AT gmail.com and I'll send you a copy of the tribal wisdom. The resident expert (in my opinion) on the LS motored cars is Brian Bowers (Cobra4B). Mike |

Re: Oil change procedure
Welcome to the forum. I have Penske GTP #1. You can message me also if you have any questions. I have had it for several years and it has had a lot of modifications and I do all of the work on it myself.

Re: Oil change procedure
Thanks guys... I did drain the oil cooler, not knowing what oil was in it I wanted it all out, tried to fill cooler as per the manual I found on line
just made a mess. So I just filled the normal way till read full on dip stick, started for a short period and added more. I put as much in as I took out, so I guess it worked out. Got the car out for a test and tune day, first time ever in a Panoz. First impression was it was set up well and predictable at the limit of grip. Hate hated the gear shift, incredibly clumsy. maybe user error but I have the next 2 weekends lined up so we'll see. |

Re: Oil change procedure
normally I dont drain the cooler unless I suspect the chance of debris in the oil. If you do, I would strongly suggest priming the motor afterwards. that can be done with an oil pump drive (removing the distributor and using a drill to drive the pump) or simply spinning the motor for 30-45 seconds with ignition off. you'd be suprised how long it takes to get all the air out of the lines and cooler.
