Bensopra x Rocket Bunny 380SX transkit

So my 380sx has finally arrived from 81 Hong Kong. It look awesome. It took over a month to receive that damn package. No it's not Thomas fault. Its that damn post office taking their sweet time to send out to America. So after I open the box, we all know its going to be resin instead plastic. So over the weekend I'm gonna add more information and do some measurement later on. Good thing I bought 180sx to be prepared. So here is the picture what I receive in the box.
You will receive a box just like this in the mail. NO, pocket knife not included.

Here is the chassis including roll cage.

Here is the rims. The one on the right that include in the car. The 1st two rims that I order for other car.

Here is the bumper, fender, wing, etc.

Here is the VR38DETT engine and racing seat, steering, etc.

And last piece is rear windshield.

So if there any question, feel free to ask. I'll try my best.

Thanks for sharing, the glass looks a bit thick. Not my style but that motor will look killer in a 240sx!! Post a wip thread so we can know how the fitment is on it.

Hi,

interesting, the cage will need lots of putty and sanding. Most of the wheels look more oval than round ?!?!

The only problem is there are no instruction at all. So guess I have to get picture off from face book and work my way out.

I am going to be honest, the pics that you posted do not look very impressive, but I will wait to see how it builds up before I make a judgement

Re: Bensopra x Rocket Bunny 380SX transkit

I do not understand why there is all this hate on Eightyone. He makes an excellent product. Perhaps its because he tried to copy Gio's RB26? When that surfaced 81 immediately stopped and started developing his own. Weird, though, no one complained that the F20C is a direct copy of the old Sakatsu offering. Maybe because we don't know Mr. Sakatsu, so we don't care? I certainly don't - Sakatsu isn't offering that kit anymore and I can use a few of those motors still, and the resin is infinitely better to work with than the white metal was. I just think it's a bizarre double standard.

The wheels are most definitely round. I have a few sets and have been very happy with them. The moldings are pinhole free, the detail is all there, and they are round as a round thing. The plastic is much less brittle than the Hobby Design offering, so you can squeeze on tight fitting tires without breaking the spokes and crushing the lip around the edge. The wheels look like they have some bad molding around the edge, but that's because the rubber tire has some flash that obscures the edge. I have been pretty damned impressed in any case.

I got the Rocket Bunny kit for the 86. I think it's great! I admit I got it because I thought it would be my only option, plastic would be much easier to work with... but I'm not one to shy away from a challenge in any case so I'm very happy with what I got. The resin is hard and fine, I was really impressed with how well it fit and how well molded it was. I admit that in the above pictures, the roll cage and the clear resin look like they could stand improvement but man that stuff is hard to cast. The rest of it, from the pictures and my experience with other kits, looks on par with some of the bigger (though not the top quality brands like S27) makers out there. Certainly as good if not better than Hobby Design.

It's really disappointing that in this thread, and in others, I have seen so many people making disparaging comments abut Eightyone. Especially by those who have none of his products in their hands. I would think that, as a community, we would welcome and encourage anyone who showed up making product at this caliber, of such interesting and uncommon cars, and filling a needed and neglected niche. Sometimes I really love coming to AF and joining in with a very like minded community, sometimes I leave shaking my head, disappointed that it's still just like all the other forums out there.

I do not see any hate towards 81 in here, I see people making comments as to what can be seen in the pics, nothing more, nothing less, and I stand behind my comment, I will wait tell I see more to pass judgement.

I love what 81 is doing, and I would love to support him, but his price tags are whats keeping me from doing so , not that I cant afford to, I can just be a cheapskate at times

I agree, a lot of the model forums out there are full of cranky old men bitching about everything, but it seems like you have an issue with people speaking freely about products, is that a problem for you? are you getting kick backs from 81?(not meaning mean, asking questions).

There are been plenty of photos shown, even on this very website that have clearly shown that some of Thomas's casting was pretty bad, light on detail, just over all bad quality , and I don't see anyone not welcoming 81 and what Thomas is doing, I see people pointing things out that are not right, or need to be better, and you have to be honest, his price tags are on the high side, being honest, and I am just going by photos, average casting

And I am sorry, what I see as average casting is keeping me paying the price's for his stuff, so I guess its a damned if you do, damned if you dont, I cant judge for myself in person because I am not sure if I think that is stuff is worth the money. But believe me, I would love to drop the cash for his stuff

I would to get his R35 Bensopra kit, and maybe one day I will.

While some of the casting are a bit soft, I don't think they are to the point of "bad quality", and they are definitely workable. Their wheels in particular are very nicely cast, especially the new ones. They have improved a lot from their first batch of R35 transkit, which was just released late last year, which most people have difficulties with.

Some of the accusations I've seen in other threads are down right unrealistic. People expect big company styrene kit quality, but the fact is that these are hand casted resin bodies and it is almost impossible to have the pieces cast as thinly and crisply as a multi-piece injection slide mold machine with styrene could.

No, I don't receive kickbacks from EightyOne in case anyone wonders. In fact, other than sharing the same country of residency I have absolutely no relations to them, other than being a very happy repeated customer.
