Parody on decals from Le Mans supplied by Studio 27

Yesterday I got this information that the Renaissance company issues a
file of decals for Porsche 934 RSR # 82 LM 1979 . I was wondering why when
these were issued by S27 and there is a variety of other interesting
liveries. Then I compared decals from S27 and a photograph of decals
supplied by Renaissance and I was amazed. S27 misses almost all
inscriptions and logos for the back - see attached photos. My opinion is
that the graphic designers from S27 use aerial pictures of car models and
that their sense of colours is very poor or almost none. Why should they
make a bronze stripe instead of a golden one, then? The above mentioned
decals from S27 are worthless and unfortunately I also belong among their
owners. I doubt that excuse or satisfaction can be expected from the
Studio 27.
I personally intend to finish buying from this company as I do not intend
to support their incompetence.

I wouldn't be that critical on S27, there are a LOT worse than them in the modelling market place. Perfection is hard 2 achieve in this hobby and sometimes a compromise has to be second best.

Re: Parody on decals from Le Mans supplied by Studio 27

Hi, i understand your frustration, although fulminating ain't gonna solve anything.
The studio27 decals sets for 1/24 934 are designed by UMI Graphics, as it says on bottom of sheet. And yes, UMI seems to have missed some in this sheet. But, I also think renaissance missed some... Apparently, they mistook the car in your pic nr1 being the same car as in pic nr2, so they have drawn 2 different nr 28 logos.
But it seems to me, car in pic nr 2 is same as car in pic nr3 (and nr1 is other set-up from most probably another race), so the nr 28 logos should have had same design if depicting that car.
Also another difference: notice the bilstein logo on front fender in pic nr 2 car, missing on pic nr1 car. I have seen logos being placed only 1 side of car, but those are scarce & can be considered as exceptions. So, these bilstein logos should be added if building car in pic nr2 & nr3, but should be left off if building pic nr1 car.
Renaissance sheet seems to be missing the Gr 4 decals. And (nitpicking, i admit) the nrs on the front hood, should be more wide than in renaissances drawing. St27 drawing seems a little too 'square', but has better width and correct spacing between nr2 & Nr8.

So, maybe buy both and have 1 full set?

I know how difficult it is to make correct decal sheet, cause, every time you think you understand the liveries, someone pops out a picture proving exactly the opposite... Oh well. Those who can do better, can try of course. And that's exactly why i make mine ;-))

Re: Parody on decals from Le Mans supplied by Studio 27

All three pictures represent the 1979 Le Mans 24h race, it is 100% certain. Nonetheless, the livery "evolved" during the race (3rd picture was taken before the race, during the weight control), noticeably with the left door number: the car certainly "lost" its original squared 82 (not 28 ) and replaced it with "normal" numbers. We can trust Etienne D'Hondt (from Renaissance) for everything related to the Le Mans 1979 edition: it is his first and favorite edition of the race and he has collected a huge documentation about it, whereas Studio 27 only copied all the existing Exoto 1/18 liveries By the way, the 24h ACO group stickers which appear to be missing on the Renaissance sheet will be included in the set, but printed on a separate sheet. Studio 27 decals have their qualities, but most of those that I bought present mistakes (I am mainly interested by 70's and 80's cars), although documentation is easier to find nowadays. For me the choice is made.

I think the square 82 is not lost in the race. This should be a photo of the race.

Re: Parody on decals from Le Mans supplied by Studio 27

btw i think this pic is absolutely too nice, also for the used/damaged paint effect on front spoiler....compared to some 2k ultra glossy finish on models

The replaced number was on the left door. What this picture shows is the right door...

Interesting picture. It is certainly taken during practice or at the beginning of the race, the car is still quite clean. Difficult to say if the Bilstein stickers were on the front wings though...

And, as is the case quite often, the good photo comes after the fact.

Re: Parody on decals from Le Mans supplied by Studio 27

I have photos that do not have the "Ecurie Tour Auto" or socoremorque decals. The yellow stickers do appear to be there, but as just blobs, they were indistiguisable.

As far as the Lubrifilm markings, my photos are totally different yet my newer reference does have an Ecurie Tours Auto sicker across the rear, totally different from the photos you show.

Where do you find these photos. It would sure help. And yes, they are the same as exoto, I did both.

And one more thing, the Lubrifilm decals were done 13 years ago. S27 reprinted without my knowledge, otherwise I would have updated with the newer ifo I have, yet it is still not as extensive as the photos you have posted.
