motor swap
Hey everybody, i have a 95 k1500 with a 350 TBI and its got about 235000 miles on it and i know here soon im gonna want to replace the motor. I would like to swap the tbi out for a 96 and up newer vortec 5.7 motor but im not sure about how hard or how much i would have to change to make it fit. I have a 4l60 10 bolt tranny and 3.73 gears. Would a newer style motor bolt up to that tranny? And what else would i have to consider doing to make it work, thanks

Re: motor swap
The TBI intake manifold won't fit the Vortec bolt-pattern on the cylinder heads. Secondarily, the Vortec heads have no exhaust crossover, so the TBI intake manifold has no source of exhaust gas to route through the EGR passages.
These are your biggest, most-expensive issues. The "fix" is either a very specialized (expensive) intake manifold, and a particular exhaust manifold that has some plumbing to route exhaust gas to the intake manifold via a tube. All this stuff was sold by GM, if you find an older Performance Parts catalog, the part numbers will be listed. OR You don't run EGR on the engine (Not smog-legal, and can lead to detonation and engine damage) but you still have the problem of the intake bolt-holes not matching OR You use aftermarket Vortec-style heads that have and exhaust crossover and the older bolt pattern (also expensive) There is no good, inexpensive TBI-to-Vortec solution.

Re: motor swap
Thanks for the reply, im not sure were on the same page though. I dont want to swap the intakes i want to take out the whole tbi 350 motor and put in a newer 96 and up either 5.3 or 5.7 vortec motor. I was just wondering if the vortec motor would bolt up to The 4l60 trans and what else i would need to make it work.

Re: motor swap
So your plan is to remove the TBI fuel pump, install a high-pressure pump, and then install the entire computer/wiring harness/fuel system from the 96-up donor vehicle, losing the TBI engine AND all the rest of the TBI fueling/ignition system???
A 96-newer vehicle will have a computer-controlled transmission, too. I have NO idea how the newer computer system will play with the older transmission. Perhaps a '95 transmission is already computer controlled (4L60E) and could be compatible.
