why is my car whining?

I have a 2009 Chevy Traverse. my emissions light came on. I took it to the dealer who said it was a "timing" code and they had to replace timing chains, etc. When I got the car back,it was whining, it sounded like a whined up car. They said it was probably air in the P/S line. I drove it for a couple weeks with no improvement and took it back. they said now "your P/S pump needs replaced. Probably just a "coincedence." They replaced my P/S pump and the noise is better but still there. now, we have gotten an email that my water pump has been recalled. could this be the issue? I am very frustrated. the noise did not exist prior to me taking the car to the garage.

This a GM shop?

They said it was probably air in the P/S line.

If air in the PS line, then they should have removed the air, and if not possible, they should have told you, you have a leak....

Noise still there? The it goes back to the shop and complain...they don't do anything about it, then you call GM Customer Assistance....

Well, get the w/p replaced....if your noise is now gone, then complain about unnecessary replacement of PS pump....

By the way, was this warranty work or out of pocket expenses?

OK. The power steering system on these are very tough to bleed. When they did the timing chain repairs they had to "open" the power steering system. Since the noise was not there before, there is probably still air in the system. GM did release a updated 12 vane pump to help reduce whining noises in the system. As far as you recall goes, all it consists of is checking the coolant level in the tank and in the radiator, there is nothing wrong with your water pump and it will not be replaced.
