Re: jane 1964
BTSI(brake transmission interlock) solenoid problem.....
You must step on the brake first, BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT out of gear...if you try to shift before applying the brake, you can lock it.... However, if you ARE applying the brake before shifting, then it's the BTSI solenoid(which means the WHOLE shifter has to be replaced) OR, you have a broken wire in the harness to the solenoid(see this more than the solenoid)......this is caused by the shifter flexing the harness over time.....you would have to remove the shifter handle("U" shaped retainer has to be removed from the handle) and then the top of the console to access the harness... The wires may look intact.....so give a slight tug on each wire where it comes out of the harness....might find one that breaks off..... In the meantime, there is a little square plastic piece to the right/center of the shifter....pop that off......then using a pen/pencil go straight down and push on a lever, that will allow you to shift out of Park.....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE FOR SAFETY.... |
