WIP: 1/12 Williams FW14b w/RBMotion Side Pod Kit!

So let's get moving on my second WIP! It's the classic Tamiya 1/12 kit of the Williams FW14b. Here is the kit, all nice and laid out:

Here is the RB Motion "Side Pod Kit", divided up into sections to make it easier. There are well over 600 turned parts! Lots and lots of little baggies. Now I know what crack dealers go through...

I've spared you the boring stuff about painting to tub and decaling. Pretty routine stuff. A few shots of the tub (polished out) and the engine cowling (not polished yet):

Now, on to the good stuff. Here is the fuel tank area/back of the air scoop with all the various RBM parts plus a few I did myself:

Here is the right side pod:

And here is the Grand-daddy of them all, the left:

I'll have more as it progresses. Enjoy for now!

Daniel

That's because it's not... It was a limited-production kit that sold for $500+. I believe Robert said he sold the last one late last year.

Re: WIP: 1/12 Williams FW14b w/RBMotion Side Pod Kit!

Great work!
I didn`t know that Robert did such a limited run of kits, but it looks stunning! The price is heavy stuff, do you know if he will do these kits once again or offers a list which details parts from his listings will be in comparsion to this kit?
Some parts looks like they came from the normal program, so it would be great if you have more informations about the item numbers

Paint an decal job looking pretty nice, i hope we can see the rest of this build which can get into museum model if you go on like this

Re: WIP: 1/12 Williams FW14b w/RBMotion Side Pod Kit!

He started this probably 10 years ago and hadn't produced any more. He actually states in the instructions to be careful to not lose any pieces, as he will NOT be making any more, period.

Mainly, the parts are pretty straight out of his catalog as you noticed. The other parts you don't recognize are parts that are special made (not a regular offering by him) or a part that I turned. If you have a question about a specific part, I'd be happy to answer it as I can.

Thanks for the complements!

Daniel

Re: WIP: 1/12 Williams FW14b w/RBMotion Side Pod Kit!

I'm excited to see more. The FW14B is one of my favorite F1 chassis of all time - it is the most revolutionary F1 chassis to date, IMHO.

Great detail on those side pods so far, Daniel. Really cool to see somebody give this kit the attention it deserves!

Re: WIP: 1/12 Williams FW14b w/RBMotion Side Pod Kit!

Second update!

I've pretty much completed work on the front shock/suspension mount detail. I've added and scratchbuilt almost all of it, with RBM's parts being some of the electronics connectors and the a/n and hydraulics connections. The gold hydraulics that replaced the shocks were turned by me (one of my first projects!) and was a lot of fun to try and get right. CF decals are KA Models. Yes, those are simulated velcro strips around the edge of the body panel, as that's what Williams apparently used to help fasten it down! I still have a few things to add but I'm waiting on them from RBM, so I figured I'd take some pics and get them up so that this thread didn't die a horrible, lonely death!
