'97 Power steering line Magnasteer or not?
My mom owns a '97 Century Custom, that currently needs the power steering pressure line to be replaced. I've tried pricing one up, but I'm given 2 options and I'm not sure which one to choose. I'm given the option of one with variable assist power steering (Magnasteer™ [If Equipped] according to the owners manual) and one without.
I've read that the "Limited" ones have the Magnasteer, and that maybe the "Custom" ones don't. I've also seen people say you can tell by some tag on the trunk, where there's a NV7 or NV8 (depending on the model) in the RPO code (?), which signifies that the car has Magnasteer. I really don't know anything about Buicks, so I'm lost at this sort of thing. Anyone have any idea how I can easily tell which line I need? |

Re: '97 Power steering line Magnasteer or not?
The RPO (Regular Production Options) tag on your car is probably on the underside of the spare tire cover. NV7 usually denotes variable assist steering. You can identify a MAGNASTEER steering gear simply by looking at the gear stub housing. It's the area that the steering column connects to the gear. If there is a electrical harness coming out of the housing, its is a MAGNASTEER steering gear. Will be a two wire harness.

Awesome thank you very much. I'll look for the RPO sticker and for that connector.
