2004 Caravan engine install

I recently installed a new (used) motor in my '04 Caravan. I'm at a stage where
I'm trying to start it up and I'm having trouble. I have a charged battery and when I put the key in, I get that old familiar chime. When I turn the key, nothing
happens. I know the starter is good because I bench tested it. I can hear the fuel pump run when I put the key in run, so I think it's getting fuel. If I can turn it over, I think it will run. Please give me some ideas on what may be wrong. When I first tried, I was able to crank it over with no start. I tried some starting fluid and it ran for a split second. I realized the fuel pump relay had been removed, so I put it back in. Cranked with short starts, then no cranking at all.

Did you check all the battery and starter connections for cleanliness and tightness? Sounds like you just about have the job whipped but it's now the small stuff.

Re: 2004 Caravan engine install

have you tried jumping the contacts at the starter? If it cranks, you know you have good power from the battery to the starter. Also, do you hear the starter relay clicking when you turn the key? If not, the relay may be bad or the PCM isn't sending a signal to it. Here's a link with a similar situation that may help:

Good luck.

If the relay is clicking then you should be good all the way up to the relay. I.E. the ignition switch, PCM, Tranny range sensor and secirity system, if you have one are all doing what they should. Your problem is from the relay on.

RIP's post may help. Good luck.
