Adding weight like that to the tires will slow it down, its extra rotational mass, similar to a heavy flywheel. If your serious about racing, you should get a set of 13s or 14s with some larger tires on them for the front.

chrome wheels are usually always heavier than an alloy wheel or aluminum wheel...Chrome is for show...not the track

just my opinion

Lightbulb

What's up guys....

Ok...crome or silver rims will be heaver than the factory rim because the rim it's self is not only painted/chromed, but it is also forged from one (or more) solid piece of metal/aluminum (spelling???).

The factory rim will only usually be a two-piece rim made of thinly made metal/iron with no bells/whistles except for black paint and a hub cap...(stock aluminum's are a different story but usually still lighter than a custom rim - non-competition of course).

Also the factory rim is only 13/14" s in diameter as we all know and typically if one were to get a custome rim...one would get a bigger diameter rim such as poss. 16", 17", 18", or higher. Depending on the brand rim you get will depend on the actual wieght the rim will carry and how much it will help/hurt your performance on the street/track.

I had 18" RH M7000's on my '97 Civic and it looked nice, but it slowed me dwn tremendously(spelling again...???) because of the weight and also the larger diameter.

To make a long story short...Chrome (especially Super Crystal (R) is heavier than painted but both will most likely still be heavier than the stock rim...

Take care...
