Swaping Rear end
Hello, I have a 1992 GMC Yukon 1500. I have recently bought and I have been driving it for about a month.. yesterday I went for a job interview and on my way back, my rear end ate up a gear.. not sure exactly what was shot. I know the large spine gear is chewed up and there was some chunks of gear in the bottom of the housing, I can not see what exactly broke....but it bangs violently when I was pulling it into my garage.
I want to replace the whole rear end because I do not have the proper tools and knowledge to rebuild it correctly.. I am trying to save money by swapping it all. I have looked for doner cars but no one has the year and make available anywhere nearby so far, My question is can I swap it for a GMC 1500 pick up rear end and have the gear ratio and wheel base be the same? I looked on the case for ratio numbers and all I found was 2000792 09 13. I need some guidance on what I should do to resolve this issue Thank you for reading. |

Glad you got it figured out. Be sure to change the oil in the new/used rear axle and inspect the gear teeth. I would verify the proper gear ratio also before the install. |
