I guess from reading other forums, not too uncommon a problem. Several said this did the trick: Purge control valve, Motorcraft part# CX2349, $31 online solved my issues. 5 minute easy installation, right on front of motor, 2 bolts. No more MIL lamp, no more "Check Fuel Filler" warning. also make sure you check the flap in the pipe, make sure nothing is stuck there. Use the little plastic fill funnel that came with the car to open and close it a few times.
