Cool holy mackeral

2000 GP GT 3.8 series 3. When starting car it has a ticking sound and runs very rough (like a plug missing). As it warms up the missing and sound go away (usually within 1 to 5 miles). I am using synthetic oil. Just used seafoam in vac lines and the rest in fuel tank.

Re: holy mackeral

How many miles on car? What weight oil are you using? Using a good oil filter? Sounds like lifter noise.

Re: holy mackeral

ProZ sometimes the lifters leak down overnight. Then when the car is started they have to pump up. Your post sure does sound like it is the lifters making the noise but it is imposible to know for certain without hearing it. Sometimes lifters will make the noise for a few seconds upon starting when an oil filter has no anti-drainback valve. How long does the noise and roughness last? Seconds or minutes? That's pretty low mileage for the lifters to be bad. How long have you owned the car? I've seen these engines last for 300,000 miles and more.

I think that you are right and thank you very much. It only lasts a few minutes then goes away.
