Will a camshaft help performance with stock computer?
Hello All, your opinions are greatly appreciated..
I have a '96 K1500 Z71 extended cab with a 5.7L engine and 225,000 miles. I have a burnt exhaust valve in the #3 cylinder, so I need a valve job. While there, I was toying with the idea of adding an after-market performance camshaft. Nothing real wild, just a little enhancement to maybe boost performance and mileage. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts of if and/or how much this may help? I'm trying to avoid a costly 'can-of-worms' where the new camshaft will need a new cpu, and then performance ignition, distributer, etc. Thanks All! |

If the engine is in good shape a slightly hotter cam might boost performance some, take it from me though don't go overboard.
