Fuel line replacement?

My 00 expy dropped a driveshaft after the unjointed broke. It took out a section of both return and delivery fuel lines. Can these be repaired as in splicing in a new section or must I replace the whole line? What is the most economical way and place to get the parts?

If the fuel lines are rubber with an embedded wire mesh, you can purchase repair kits to replace the damaged section. If the fuel is metal, you'd have to replace the entire metal section. You can buy repair kits at a store like Advanced Auto Parts or the Auto Zone. I'd check on line at their websites first to see what they have before taking the time to travel to one of their stores.

If it is plastic, Ford is usually the only way to get a new replacement. And usually very expensive. So for me it is usually off to the junk yard in that case. I have broken a end fitting on one of those plastic lines and done a splice repair. Most auto part stores will have those ends and about a foot of plastic line on them. I got a splice fitting for that size plastic line. I then heated up a pot of water till boiling and carried it out to the garage. Not taking gas lines into the house or near the stove. Wearing gloves and using various pliers I dip the lines into the water to soften them up, then force them onto the splicer. I had to reheat the lines a couple of times in the water to get them fully onto the splicer. I consider this a temporary fix. I don't think it will ever come apart, but the diameter of the fuel line is reduced by the splicer and you might not get full flow in those times you need it.

If metal you can get a section of copper tubing and some copper crush connectors and put in a splice. My son cut a fuel line on his Termite truck at the gas tank and purchased a copper elbow with crush connectors and got another 100,000 out of his truck a 1998 GMC 3/4 ton with 5.8L engine.
