Datsun 510
This is the first run of this kit and this one dates back to the 70's, so the plastic was very brittle, and the body was out of shape, almost like it got to hot and is deformed. So that lead to a lot of fit issues with the windows, I had to trim all of them, and I had to intasll the windscreen from the inside as oppse the out side.
Its as good as my skills can get it, I still have to work on the rear window, I used BMF for the taillights, not all that happy with how it came out, and I just want this one off the bench I just now noticed that I forgot the drivers side door handle and did not BMF it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Datsun 510
very nice and i definitely agree about working on certain kits that are over 20 years old. to me, there's certainly something nostalgic about doing them, but you soon quickly realize your skills can only do so much to correct, a poor mold, styrene quality, age, etc.
I'm currently contemplating working on an old entex kit of the monte carlo rally car - lancia stratos. although the box was in ok shape and all the plastics appear ok, the molding is horrendous and I'm convinced nothing I do will keep it from looking toy like and that might be just fine given the subject and the manufacturer. which manufacturer is this 510 kit from? I remember monogram did this kit year ago. Is it from them? anyway, job well done. |
