2000 Malibu no crank/no start Theft System light on

Hi everyone!

I need serious help with my car. It's a 3.1 V6 with about 135K miles on it, and I bought it from a Canadian girl and her mother a few months ago. It was a perfectly running car with minimal problems. About a month ago, my Malibu decided it didn't want to start. We've replaced the starter, ignition switch and key, checked fuses and wires, battery and alternator. When you turn the key to "Start" only the Check Engine light comes on. The daylights, interior lights and radio turn off, and not a sound is made. The Theft System light is always on and we've tried the relearning trick so many times the battery has died and I have no way to get a new one without a car. I do have a battery charger and we have charged it back up but I don't know if this is really going to help us out. We need the car in order to get to work and I've lost hours and money over it. I don't know what to do anymore and I can't afford to have it towed to the dealer and looked at. Any ideas?

Re: 2000 Malibu no crank/no start Theft System light on

Your vehicle has PassLock for a security system....

Check your underhood fuse block......find the crank relay......"feel" the relay as someone puts the key in the crank position.....if it doesn't click, swap it with another relay of the same number.....if it still doesn't click, chances are you have a PassLock problem.......A scan tool that reads "B" codes would tell if B2958 or B2960 is set.....these are the usual codes that set with a PassLock problem......the usual fix is a new PassLock sensor/module......in some cases, it can be a wiring/connector problem.....

Sounds like you wasted a lot of money on guessing.......unfortunately, time for guessing is over......need to bring it to someone who knows what they are doing.....
