CONTOUR KEEPS DOWNSHIFTING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN WARM. please help!
Hey all,
I just bought a 2000 Ford Contour because my other car died. I was hoping for reliable transportation. I already replaced fuel pump recently. The Problem: It seems that when the car warms up, and gets above 40 - 45 mph, it'll keep jumping back and forth from lower gear to higher gear. It sometimes seems to help when I turn off the overdrive. It does it on all surfaces and when I keep a steady speed as well. I could really use a break with car trouble, and now nothing about this model car. If you can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks you so much Dennis |

On my 1998 SE trim, 2 liter, I fixed random unexpected shifting by replacing the position sensor switch (AutoZone).. That was five or ten years ago, no recurrences.
