2.2 Ecotech - Interference Engine?
We are looking at a 2007 Ion with a 2.2 Ecotech engine in it. I was wondering if this is an interference engine and what the replacement interval is for the timing belt.

Re: 2.2 Ecotech - Interference Engine?
Yes, the Ecotec 2.2L 4-cyl is an interference engine. It does not use a timing belt. It uses a timing chain which normally lasts the life of the engine and does not require regular maintenance.

Re: 2.2 Ecotech - Interference Engine?
Phipps,
Yes, Ruley73 is correct. After doing some research I have found that the replacement interval for the chain varies based on driving habits but does last for an extended time period. The timing chain is not a maintenance item like a belt. Erica Tiffany GM Customer Service |
