Rack and Pinion

I have a 01 Sierra 1500 with 2wd. The garage noticed the leaking on the drivers side boot when changing the oil. They diagnosed blown steering rack and want $1500 to replace power steering pump, rack assembly, steering pressure hose, tie rod ends. I don't have noise or anything yet but the garage says it will come. Needed a pint of steering fluid. It seemed a quick diagnosis so I wondered if anyone had this happen to them. Thanks.

Re: Rack and Pinion

Why the p/s pump, are the tie rods worn?

Re: Rack and Pinion

I don't think the tie rods are worn, it drives and steers nice. I didn't suspect a problem so this potential repair is shocking. I have 134k miles on the truck.
