01jeep grand Cherokee gas tank removal with splash plate?

I have to drop the gas tank to change the fuel pump on a 2001 Cherokee Laredo. It has a splash plate covering the tank and towing hitch bolted under it. Does anyone have any helpful hints or pointers on this job? Thanks.

If not mistaken those splash plates are protecting heavy-duty steel base to that certain area.
