hey yo sup all of yall out there,
Im out of MD, and I ain't much experienced wit racing. I just got an under 10,000 miles Mitsubishi Galant 2002 ES wit an automatic transmission. It's pushing 140hp. I just wanted to know if u guys think it's possible to race wit it. Cuz I personally never heard of some1 racing wit an automatic. Holla back ! |

Simply put...YES! And if your car is up to it, you'll beat most of the non-driving nitwits out there who swear by their manual gear-yankers. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with racing an auto. It's actually a better choice for most serious non-pro track-goers. Don't worry about having an auto, worry about only having 140hp! That's gonna lose you a lot more races than not being able to bang through the gears will

take a look at my auto in the sig
its pretty quick, killed a few late model mustang sticks so THERE, autos can win, hehe and mine is 140hp stock, too bad it isnt a 155hp dohc yea the auto isnt holding ya back, the 140hp engine is, but after a couple grand in mods you'd be right in there. im not sure if mods to current engine or enginse swap is doable for a galant, mayb someone else knows make it a quiet sleeper and don't do anything to the outside

Personally I prefer my auto over a manual. More consistent, and I don't have to worry about shifting and clutch work in traffic. Plus I find it funny when people rag on me for having an auto, and think my car is slow.
If you plan on doing a lot of racing, then trans life is something to worry about. You should already have an automatic trans cooler in the car, but an aftermarket one would help out a great deal and keep the frictional heat to a minimal. Just remember that autos eat up slightly more power then a stick. And like Self said worry about only making 140 HP.
