Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
I am having mine replaced in a 95 TD suburban and I am told this was the reason for the lack of power, has anyone ever had that happen to them

timing chain can be checked by looking at the timing on a machine. best replace if it is worn anyway . |

Re: Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
Not sure what drives the IP, if so then yes. A slack t chain could adversely effect timing. A little timing has a big impact on power.

Re: Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
There is a gear on the cam shaft that drives the pump, it just seems hard to believe that a slightly worn chain can cause this much power loss.
I should have it back today I will let you know if that was the problem |

The high pressure DI diesels make roughly twice as much power even stock.....

Re: Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
Having a timing chain to drive the injection pump is not diesel technology. This is one reason to avoid these GM diesels. When the timing chain gets loose, it will have an adverse effect on the injection timing. Timing chains do not last like having a gear driven injection pump. I hope that replacing the chain fixes your problem.

Re: Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
So I got the truck back, I had the timing chain replaced and the injectors, still no power, although it starts faster with almost no start up smoke and the noise in the front of the engine is gone, the air filter and fuel filter were changed and the riser pump checked and working properly. I also sent a borrow scope down the tail pipe to see if the catalytic converter was clogged and it seemed really clean and all the square were visible. So is there a way to check the injector fuel pump? It does seem to miss a little at higher speeds and my gas millage is not good, it used to be in the high 19 now only 15 MPG. Acceleration if not towing anything is not bad until its gets past 30 miles an hour, could this be the injector pump? I really need this solved

Re: Can a loose timing chain cause lack of power?
Is the waste gate stuck open? It should be closed at all times until the ECM senses a high pressure and the will send a signal to the vacuum control solenoid to dump some vacuum to allow the waste gate to open.

I know KISS, but has anyone checked compression on this beast?
