Rotors

Its time for new rotors and was wondering what other people are using sense PFs are no longer available.

I have only used Brembo. From what PAD told me they are about the same price. Works well.

Lots of choices there...

I've run high-dollar rotors before and honestly noticed no difference from less expensive ones. They all seemed to wear about the same. Then again, I wasn't running races longer than 40 minutes. I did learn that properly bedding them will make them last a lot longer.

I would suggest any of the manufacturers I mentioned above, but stay with 48 or more vanes. I think vane counts under 48 are too light for cars above 2800# or so.

Hi David, I just had a pair of front rotors made at Coleman. With balancing and shipping came to about $250 each. The mounting bosses were incorrectly machined, but they paid the return shipping and corrected the problem at no charge. It did add about 3 weeks of down time though. Are you going to Sebring this weekend? Glen

Glen did Coleman assign a part number to the rotors for future orders and what hardware are you using? No not going to Sebring I am heading to RA.

The "school cars" (GTRA etc) used Performance Friction rotors. The GTS cars use Brembo rotors. The early GTS Brembo rotors are no longer made and require using a new same size that fits the new hats (center part).

Not sure what you have but hope the history helps.

Hi David, Have you got your new rotors? I am pleased with the rotors I got from Coleman. Are you going to VIR with Chin? I am replacing the upper A-Arm monoball bearings now and expect to be ready for VIR. Glen

Glen good to see you are getting the car out again. I got new rotors from Coleman last week but I have not had time to install them yet. No not going to VIR but I will be at RA the end of July and August.

How did the Coleman rotors work out for you?

The Coleman rotors are working as good as the last rotors, have been to: Barber, VIR, Road Atlanta, CMP and Sebring. They use the same old style fasteners as the original rotors. If I do it again I will change the mounting hardware (type) as I used up my new spares for that installation. G;-)

Thanks for the quick reply! Good to hear they are doing well compared to the PF's. I understand the Coleman rotors have 30 or 32 vanes. Are the vanes thicker or are the air gaps larger (or both)?

Pricing for floating rotors as of this morning are ~$207 for ones comparable to the PF's on GTRA's...
