Re: Any suggestions?

Civil Engineering, at least here in the United States, is more related to building placement, roads, and community projects, not really related to anything specific to engineering of automobiles or the technical aspect of vehicles.

Are you asking if Civil Engineering seems like a good fit for his average yet possibly motivated student history, or are you asking what professional groups he may want to pursue to advance in his Civil Engineering degree pursuit?

Re: Any suggestions?

Pretty much any engineering field takes a lot of dedication and focus. Plus, with Civil Engineering, it's highly recommended to become a PE which requires additional study and I think even requires a regular renewal cycle.

Re: Any suggestions?

As you said he is an average student so i will not suggest a civil engineering for him.In this case first we need to know the interest of student in which subject then only we can decide the line. you also know every subject have field so check it first.
