Could I put a 06-09 Impala Radio in an 04?

I have a 2004 Impala LS. One feature I wish it had was an aux input for a portable mp3 player so I didn't have to use an RF thing and get kind of bad reception. I'd rather have a line in. I don't like after market radios because they don't look right being 1x DIN and the weird work arounds for the stereo controls on the steering wheel. Also, I used to have one in this car and it had to stick out of the dash about an inch to make up for the depth, which I thought looked bad.

I was just looking at this ad...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360519362567

I think cosmetically it would look pretty close to factory if someone didn't know what a factory radio looked like in an 04. Would it work in an 2004? Would it directly interface or is it not compatible at all because it's not meant for a 2004? I know I would at the least, I would have to take it to the dealer and have it programmed.

(I originally changed out my factory radio when the car was new to an after market and sold the original one. Then the after market radio failed and I bought another factory one and had the dealer program it to my car. FYI)

There are also some people on ebay that are modifying older radios, putting aux inputs on them. You could see if anyone has done that for your model radio.

I've been looking my self for a few years for my 05 Malibu to no avail...!

I ended up using one of these:

-ISIMPLE-IS31-Universal-Auxiliary-Audio-Input-For-All-Fm-Radios-

It works pretty well, and it was the most cost effective solution for a stock radio without an AUX Input... it works with most radios and manufacturers, it blows any t transmiter type out of the water and gives "almost" CD sound quality depending on your location and setup.

Good link, have an input in my 07, but been using RF in my Honda. This is not much more and RF sucks honestly....

Re: Could I put a 06-09 Impala Radio in an 04?

It works really well, sound is clear and strong, close to CD Quality, which may be because I'm listening to MP3s which loose sound quality when converted...

Only problem I have (may be different for your location) is that my car has an amplified antenna and now FM Radio reception is really low. Thankfully the radio station I listen to the most comes in strong.

If you have a an amplified antenna, a lot of low signal stations and listen to radio most of the time, this may not be the best alternative! Still I recommend it as a budget option to RF units, it sure beats them all!

But every other weak station cannot be received now!

Exclamation Re: Could I put a 06-09 Impala Radio in an 04?

An easier way to put an "AUX" jack in your current radio is buy an FM Transmitter and set it to an unused spot in your FM radio. Saves a lot of money and the replacement radio may not work since the 2004 Impala used the VIN number in the security to work in your car. So if your current radio was stolen it would not work in another car. It all has to match.

The sound from a transmitter is orgasmic.........
