Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

Saw this kit at my LHS and couldn't pass it up being a huge BTTF fan. Its got all the extra PE parts as well...

I took these from Google. I haven't had much experience with photo etch parts, so hopefully this isn't a waste of $60.
Started with the bottom portion of the car, between photos and watching the movie so many times i can recite by memory I got this done

I'm working on the wheels and "flying" arms as you are reading this. Pretty cool parts to make this work. Ill post more pics later tonight, waiting for paint to dry. Oh, and I had to put this on the forums...didnt see many. Thanks for looking.

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

the PE set is pretty cool. Has parts to make the Hover board, Doc's Future visor thing, the time circuits, and the best part is the PE parts to do the cooling vents on the rear. Looks way better than the plastic parts IMO. Ive been having trouble matching colors for parts though. And I ran out of aluminum paint.... Hopefully when I get some tonight I will be able to keep going on this.

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

Heres more info on the PE parts:

If this is the order sheet it looks like the PE parts are the one with no price. I don't know the language so i cant tell what it says.

Finally a small update. Been web surfing alot. watching the movies. And finally got some work done.

Put in the missing sun visors and took out the rear view mirror...forgot that Doc has those silver visors.

My start on the rear wall. Was missing the black thing behind the passenger seat. Missing the gold heatsink behind the driver. Not 100% done yet.

The rear deck had a small error. Where the orange tube is there was a box. Cut it out and made the tube off the Janitrol heater. Painted to look like the screen used cars. Having trouble getting white to look good on Mr Fusion so thats not on yet.

Flux band ends still need to be painted blue but are almost ready.

All the misc hoses and fittings are colored according to the 2nd and 3rd movie. Well thats all for now. Waiting for good weather to experiment with the Stainless Steel Buffing Metalizer. Oh and Im also trying to track Down some white Goodyear Eagle GT tire decals Something to this extent:

(sorry for big pic, borrowed from internet)
The Kit has incorrect tires and at least I can make it look correct. If anyone can help please post. Thanks.

Cool subject! I made the first issue of this kit back in the day and I'm seriously tempted to pick it up again.

The start on the hoverboard.

I was about to start on the body but I snowed 8" here in MN...after it was all melted and getting warm....I hate mother nature...
Found more reference photos so I made more alterations to the interior. Added the box behind the time circuit switch.

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

Well...having too much time on my hands and no outdoor time to paint makes more details come out. Re-did the Flux Capacitor box and other things on the back wall. Also the center console area was re-done.

Photo I am using is below:

Back wall looks alot better IMO

Took of the ceiling lights and am going to redo them to get close to the screen used car. Thanks for looking. Wish me luck.

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

I noticed the kits rims "issue" immediately scrolling down the page.

What you can do to mimic the scale rims is get some flat black acrylic paint and mix it with some water, id say a 50%/50% ratio and take a brush and sparingly apply it to each rim until you get the desired look you want.

Not sure if there are better ways im sure there is, but that should work and it should come out looking very clean.

Nice kit and excellent progress!

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

After a month of no work, i give you the flux capacitor

Added some wires and hoses to the rear deck

Going to give the buffing metalizer a try this weekend and hopefully get this kit in gear to be finished.
Anyone know of any sites that print single run of decals? Need a bunch to finish this kit and my printer doesn't like the testors decal paper.

Re: Aoshima SP08 BTTF Delorean

So, the buffing metalizer was not a good idea. Stripped the paint. Body turned black from the CSC. Primed the car and wet sanded in between coats. 2 coats of silver aluminum. Masked for all the black parts and when I peeled the tape off it made odd marks in my silver. Basically said F' it and went ahead with painting the grey fascia's. Im not stripping the body again.

And this is what the paint did after removing the tape.

I did not like the roof panel so I decided to go back to the real car. Heres what I cam up with.

I have decals to do all the buttons and switches but printer wont print them right. If anyone has idea as to fix the silver paint besides strip and start over, please let me know. Otherwise I'm going to dull coat the whole car to get close to stainless and to dull the grey paint. Thanks for looking.
