Power steering pump replacement?
I'm trying to replace the power steering pump in a '91. I got the pump and extension housing off the engine, but I don't see how the pump can separate from the housing to pull the coupler off the power steering shaft. I assume there is a special tool, but I can't even find a reference to one online. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Jason

Re: Power steering pump replacement?
Alldata lists two special tools for this repair...
JD119 and 18G-1445. I don't know if you can use one without the other, but I think the one you are looking for is the JD119. Good luck! |

Re: Power steering pump replacement?
Thanks for looking that up. Can't seem to find either of those tools though.
I managed to get it off, only took 5 hours... just glad nobody was watching me LOL. Used a 2-jaw puller (had to cut off the short side of the arms, trim part of the long end off and combine parts from 2 puller sets). Modified a bolt to center in the hole in the shaft (the bolt on the puller will press into the hole otherwise and adapters on end of it don't let the thing come off), drilled an indentation in the head for the puller screw to center on. Wasn't pretty or easy, but it's apart... I'm taking a break from modifying my P/S pulley installer to go back together. If anyone else runs into this, ignore the 1.5 hours they give unless you have the special tools. At least 3 hours plus something for the tools you'll have to modify.
