92 Accord Turn Signal / Light Switch Clicking and Fix
Got this weird problem that the turn signal switch clicks by itself, randomly. And it gets worse these couple days. So I decide to take it apart to take a look.
Cleaned it up and it works like new now. Took some photos. Hope this can help others with the same problem. Last edited by richkuan; 03-10-2013 at 09:10 PM. |

Re: 92 Accord Turn Signal / Light Switch Clicking and Fix
1. Take off the lower cover of the steering column (6 screws).
2. Remove 2 screws (as shown in picture). 3. There is a tiny tab (red circle), that's the only thing holding the switch assy. Slightly raise the plastic that's on top of it to clear the tab and pull the assy out directly. Last edited by richkuan; 03-10-2013 at 10:04 PM. |

4. Disconnect the wire and remove the assy.
5. On the assy, one side has 4 screws. The other side has 2 screws. Remove the 2 screws. 6. On the other side from the 2 screws, you will see 2 tabs. Insert small flat screw driver between the enclosure and the tab to clear them and the cover will get loose. 7. Remove the cover. |

8. The contacts are very dirty. The lubricant was dried and contaminated with worn-off metal powder. This caused short circuit and make the irregular clicking noise from the relay.
The photos show the contacts on the cover, and the ones in the assy. Last edited by richkuan; 03-10-2013 at 10:07 PM. |

9. Wipe clean the contacts both on the cover removed and inside the switch assy. In the photo, you can see the contacts are worn.
10. Don't forget to clean up the gaps. They may be filled with dried and contaminated grease, which could be conductive and cause short circuit. 11. Lightly lubricate the contacts with general purpose grease. 12. Put everything back together. You are done. Last edited by richkuan; 03-10-2013 at 10:08 PM. |

Re: 92 Accord Turn Signal / Light Switch Clicking and Fix
Thanks for the post. I'm probably going to have to take the dash apart on my 93 to fix the heater fan. So I'll probably do a rebuild on the turn multi-switch at the same time.
