So, I appear to have made a bad choice for a base color on my latest project...I used a nice shade of dark charcoal metallic krylon, but...its a VERY textured finish. Wetsanding is out of the question, brake fluid dunking is a possibility, but as this is one of those 'Chinese' revell kits..I'm very wary of trying it.
The only other thing i have available at the moment(im out of work and money is severely tight)is a bottle of GREZ OFF http://www.spraynine.com/product/gre...-degreaser-638 ![]() ![]() Would this work like superclean? Anyone have any other Ideas, I need to remove ALL of it. |

Re: Need help....I buggered up real good.
try 90% rubbing alcohol. Personally, I wouldn't try anything random like that unless I had something to test it on.

Crap, I think I only have 70% alky.....I'll take a look and if not, see if I can get some up the road.

Re: Need help....I buggered up real good.
Fume free oven cleaners are VERY poor for stripping paint...the rubbing alcohol is your best bet, even 70%...better to give it a try, and see how it goes, then try for 90% if the results aren't satisfactory.
So much better than oven cleaner, and doesn't leave deposits in your panel lines... |

Re: Need help....I buggered up real good.
The brake fluid ought to work. Or a strong degreaser from Home Teapot. Fumey oven cleaner will work, but it's real unpleasant to use - isn't modeling supposed to be fun?
Regardless, wear rubber gloves. Get the medium-duty reusable kind that are lined with some sort of cloth. With the un-lined kinds, you end up getting stuff on your hands when you're taking them off.

Re: Need help....I buggered up real good.
Sorry guys....in my trials of trying to find a job, I forgot about this thread.....
I managed to scrape together a few bucks($10 actually) and got 2, 500ml bottles of 99% alky....it worked great and the only paint left is that which etched the plastic. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated!! |
