1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1 still not firing after new coils and crank sensor

i have a 1993 pontiac grand prix se, with a 3.1 multiport fi engine. this model i have learned has no cam sensor and only the 1 crank sensor being the block above the oil pan under the manifold. my car will shut itself off and sometimes will crank back and sometimes wont. the icm checks good at advance auto. we checked it 25 times, until it was so hot you couldnt touch it and it still passed every test. i have already installed a new crank sensor. i am not getting fire from my coil once the car is warm(not even hot sometimes but WARM). could the icm still be bad? any help would be appriciated.

Re: 1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1 still not firing after new coils and crank sensor

Contrary to popular belief, have seen ICM's test out ok, but not work in a car.....

If multiport, should only have one crank sensor....

Are you saying that it starts cold, and then as it warms up, it won't start, or if it starts, it will eventually stall and not restart?

If yes to the last question, you say when it's warm and won't start, that you have no spark on all of the cylinders, or just a few of them ?

If no spark on all of them, and you have power and ground, and a new crank sensor was installed, I would be leaning towards an ICM......

However, if you have spark on some of the coils, then the coils have to be checked out......let's say you have no spark on 1/4 coil(they are usually numbered), but have spark on the others.....swap that coil with one of the others, and put the wires back on in the same position they were on originally.....now, if the coil marked 1/4 still has no spark, it's the coil....

If the new coil that was put into the original 1/4 spot, does not fire, then it's the ICM.....

Also, how old are the plugs and wires? How old is the fuel filter? Air filter and PCV valve?
