fuel pump trick
The fuel pump on my 2000 silverado quit last night. Plenty of spark and would run on starting fluid but no fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail. If you beat the bottom of the tank while cranking the engine sometimes it will start working again. It got me to the shop then died.

Re: fuel pump trick
Oldest trick in the book--the Whaaaaap test. DC motor's armatures go off center as they wear and stop in a bad spot- whaaaaaping them puts them back on center and theyh run. I've had people whaaap their tanks for 6 months- one out of 10 or so starts--Yes the pump is worn out and needs to be replaced.
The whaaaaap test also works on starter motor and blower motors
