1996 Lincoln town car coolant leak

Ok I havea friend with this car and said it kept over heating. I went and looked at it and found the source of the leak. It's right after the heater core. The hose comes out and into the engine. Where the hose slides onto the engine has a leak . It looks like the piece can unscrew and be replaced but I don't know what it's called. Anyone know?

Re: 1996 Lincoln town car coolant leak

hey Joe,

Unfortunately you may have a big problem on your hands.. you describe the Heater Core Outlet Hose that goes back to the Engine... well...

That outlet hose back to the engine actually travels the whole length of the block under the intake manifold and connects to the back side of the Water Pump. The firewall side of this long tube fastens to the back side of the passenger side Engine Head with two bolts.. I have some photos attached of both ends.. you can see the front end comes with rubber hose, this connects to a fitting on the back side of the Water Pump.

I've heard of one person that was able to replace this Tube without removing the Intake Manifold.. however it's very easy with the Intake Manifold out of the way.

Now you MUST consider one other possibility.. water WILL appear to be coming from the back side of the engine from that hose and MIGHT actually be coming from a cracked crossover passage on the first crossover of the Intake Manifold.. the crack is almost always on the bottom of the crossover just behind the Alternator and sprays hard with hard sharp acceleration.

Of course this assumes you have the factory installed Intake Manifold with plastic coolant crossovers.
