Key Cylinder or Ignition switch?

I only see this car '('99 GL, 3.5L) occasionally. But I happened to notice that, with the car running I can turn the key to the Accessory position and remove the key - and the car remains running. No starting or other issues, but I can assume those are coming?

So, do I have a wonky cylinder or switch, or both do you think?

Thank you all!

Re: Key Cylinder or Ignition switch?

Is this in the column or dash?

So you turn to ACC, which is the first detent of lock cylinder(next is "on"?)? Turn it back one more(from ACC), and car shuts off?

Re: Key Cylinder or Ignition switch?

Key cylinder is in the dash. With the car running I can rotate the key left/CCW from the On/Run position, to the ACC position and remove the key AND the car remains running.

Thanks

Re: Key Cylinder or Ignition switch?

It is worn tumblers in the lock cylinder.

I had the same problem except I had to jiggle the key just to turn also.

Ironically my new lock cylinder also does not retain the key when in run.

As long as it still keeps people from starting your car with a screwdriver and turns easy with the key, I wouldn't hassle with it.
